Here's a set I made for [livejournal.com profile] themeofthemonth round 3, which was about period dramas. I chose Atonement. This month I wanted to go out of my comfort zone a bit and focus on muted or pastelly icons, cropping (esp close crops) and lighting, and minimalistic icons with no complex composition or text. I don't consider any of these styles my strengths, but I like varying it up a bit so that people don't always know what kind of set I'm going to post next. There's also an icon dump mostly consisting of misc icons with a similar style. I hope you'll find something to like, hover for fandom! Let me know your thoughts :)

Love the soft pastel coloring on all the Atonement ones. I especially like the cropping on 1, 3, 7 and 11. Also, the compositions on 9 and 10 are simply beautiful. Great work ♥️

I like the airiness of your icons.

I love all of the icons in this post fit so nicely together. It really "makes sense" as a coherent unit. The crops, soft colors and lighting are stunning on all of these :D

It's so bleak and gruesome that I wouldn't call it a pleasant film to watch in any way and that's why I don't rewatch it as much as my other favorites, but in terms of emotional impact it's almost incomparable.
This exactly, and I feel the same way about the book. I never re-read it even though I absolutely loved it. But all the pain!!

I love the pinks, and muted tones on the Atonement set! Also crop on 1, 5 and 15 looks awesome! I also really like the light on 28, 29, 35 and 40 :D

Late as usual but my gosh, I love the harmony and coherence of the set as a whole and that's so hard to achieve with such a big batch!
Anyway, I'm preaching to the choir here but I love the crops, the lighting and the softer pastel colors throughout. My favorite part is how you combine the three to make them interesting (I keep coming back to Ben in 43 or even in 5) and how they all highlight something different. It's hard to pick other faves but I really, really like 27, 41, 53 and 60 (to pick a few). I should really get back to BB someday too, haha.

Atonement is one of those movies I've heard so many great things about but I've never watched it because I fear all the pain based on what I known. But I love that despite how dark it is, you have gorgeous colors in it. The shadows/lighting are also amazing. 5, 8, 10 are all fab (but I love them all).

Anyhow, gorgeous work as always ♥

Wow, yes, these are indeed unusual for you! It's amazing how you can make so many, and consistently good ones, for a style that's not coming easy to you.

They're real studies in cropping and lighting. I especially like the scenes (i.e. the relatively far crops) and the very close crops. From the set, my faves are 5, 7, 10, 11 (great coloring!) and 14. I find your distinctive way of coloring is evident in 14, even though the colors are not vibrant as they usually are.

Of the others, I like 17-20 (the bright lighting is especially fitting on skyscapes, and 17 has a great tension), 21, 29 (the chiaroscuro indeed comes out best in b/w or monochrome), 37 (awesome crop), 43-45 (Emerson!), 46, 49, 53 (another great crop), 57 (an example of how it *does* work with more vibrant colors, too), and 61.
