Here's my set for the 7th round of [livejournal.com profile] monthlyinspo, the theme was Back to School. Out of the subthemes, I chose to focus on 'History' because it's so different from my usual style and because I've actually been really into some period films and shows lately! (If you have a favorite period film, I'd love to hear recs. I'm not interested in wars, royalty, political history, very dark or brutal periods, or ~big stuff like that... but slice of life / drama / romance period films that focus more on individual characters, those are my jam rn). I haven't seen enough of those yet to make a full set out of them so the rest is just random fandoms :D But to make this a bit more challenging, I also wanted to use the other themes mixed with the History theme. I left one theme out ('Art - out of the box, painted, stock') because it was pretty much what my last set was about, but I used the rest of the themes and tried to do that in a way that still kept the set cohesive, so I only used some parts of the subthemes.

Hope you'll like the set, this is an extra multifandom post so hover for fandom!

Ooooh, wow, yes, these are unusual for you! But you can do every style well!

I never even thought of using blocking as the geometric element on science, duh. It looks amazing. I really like 5,6,7, and 11. 11 especially has that overpowering black frame, which I wouldn't have dared use but that works really well.

I love the motion in 12! A very emotional icon.

The last row is awesome, too. I especially like 17 (yay Raylan!), the complex composition in 18 is just wow.

Great, great set!

Gorgeous set! Love the muted coloring you have throughout the set, and the blocking is stunning! *is in awe* Favorites: 1, 4, 10 and 17! You don't see a lot of Justified or Leverage icons around (or at least I do), so special thanks for them!

PS: Keep my fingers crossed - you'll get that job, I'm sure!

How was your job interview? :) Was it connected with graphics design or making icons is just a hobby? (sorry for personal question, I'm always curious if icon makes are "professionals")

I admire your icons as always - my favourites are 5, 12 and 14 - the use of muted/cool green looks awesome. Also the use of light on all icos is great. From complex icons my favourite is 18.

These are so pretty! It's nice to see a departure from your usual style; honestly I never would have guessed any of these were from you. The coloring on 4 just jumps out at me for some reason and I adore it. 7 is beautiful in its simplicity/complexity mix. I just really like the departure from your usual style!

Programming is a solid profession!
Programmers are always in demand so I'm positive you'll find a great career opportunity soon even if your job interview didn't go so well. Good luck! :)

I love how every icon you make seems to tell a story! You're so talented in mixing all the elements and the results are just wow!
Love 3, 5, 12, 13, 16 and 17!

As for period dramas recs, maybe I can help you! I'm so fond of them and all of those pretty dresses, but I really don't know what you've already watched, so sorry if there are movies you already know! Sometimes I discover them by searching for actors/actresses that I've already seen in period pieces; some of them can be, for example, Keira Knightley, Colin Firth, Matthew Macfadyen, Alicia Vikander, Nicole Kidman, Orlando Bloom, Richard Armitage, Romola Garai and so on! Just start with them and lurk their films for very good pieces! Other favourite movies, that aren't with them, are basically all the Jane Austen's and Bronte's novels adaptations (classical books adaptations are generally gorgeous period dramas), Crimson Peak, In the Heart of the Sea, Masters and Commanders, Florence Foster Jenkins, Miss Potter, Bright Star, To Walk Invisible, the Shakespearean ones are also usually good, Belle, Sleepy Hollow, Stardust, Ever After... Really there are too many! Hope these suggestions are useful! ♥

Oh my gaaaawd, this set is STUNNING. Your compositions here are amazing. I actually find muted colouring really difficult, but you are so perfect at it. ♥ Your use of textures is as inspiring as ever, as is your use of text. I wish I could use every single one of them but I'm not familiar with most of them! But anyway, my faves are 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 15, 16, 17 and 18! :D

[identity profile] scarred-loretta.livejournal.com 2017-09-28 09:43 am (UTC)(link)
