Here's my set for round 2 at somein30 :) The round was about heroes and villains, and I wanted to go for a very typical source for such - I continued watching MCU, which as been on hold for years so I've fallen totally behind. I watched the (chronologically) first four films I hadn't already seen: Captain Marvel (2019), The Incredible Hulk (2008), Thor: The Dark World (2013), and Guardians of the Galaxy vol 2 (2017). Some of these were great (gotg2 was even funnier and better than expected, and I LOVED Captain Marvel, I had very low hopes since so many people dislike this film but it just really resonated with me and Brie was amazing and I legit think Carol is my favorite MCU hero, unpopular opinion I know, but she's just awesome and yonvers is everything and the 90s feels!! Such an underrated film), and some were not (Hulk had an introverted depth that I can appreciate, but the film wasn't funny and didn't feel connected to the franchise and had a totally different vibe and it was so dark that it was damn near uniconable, and then there's the mess that was Thor: the Dark World. Loki saved this movie, but the plot wasn't great).

Anyway, I wanted the style of this set to be ~comicbooky. Or posterlike. Or something. So, no lighting, very unnatural colorings, simple blocky color patches with a limited, clear palette, big text, halftone textures. I had a rough start, started too late and almost ran out of time, but by the end I was having a lot of fun and I hope it shows!

I chose Normal mode for this challenge (I meant to go extra hard but after I slacked off the first 2 weeks I was like screw this I'll do the easy one :p)
Icons 8 & 20 are villains and the rest are heroes. Very unlike me to focus more on heroes, but let's face it MCU has better heroes, aside from Loki (and I do have a soft spot for Yon-Rogg).

These are absolutely amazing! I don't even know what to say.

First of all, you nailed the style! It looks so comicbook-y and perfect. The vibrant, flat colors and compositions are gorgeous ♥♥♥
My favorites are 1, 14, and 19. There are really no bad icons though. The animation on 3 also looks good while still fitting the rest of the set. The coloring on 21 is a bit too wacky for my taste, but still super well executed :D

let's face it MCU has better heroes
Isn't that true. That's why I didn't even try to do MCU for the villains.
Captain Marvel is one of my favorite MCU movies. Definitely an underrated one. I blame the internet for its "bad" reputation.

Omg LJ tried to hide this comment from me, NOT FAIR D: I'm suuuper happy that I made a cat gif -worthy set, there is no higher compliment tbh so THANK YOU <3 I'm so glad you like them and that the style worked! :D 21 is waaayyy wacky even for me but I had so much fun making it, I always restrict myself a bit less with extras which is why there are so many in each set :D

I love the composition of these icons and how intricate lovely the set is and also , very uniform.
Though it is really hard to pick and choose from any set of yours , if I have to I'll go for 1, 5, 6, 9 , 18 , 19, 20 ( last two are super gorgeous.).
The misc. set is even better and I'll go for icons , 23, 27, 29 , 30 . Wonderful make and craft.

Thiiiiiis. The movie is so feel-good and fun, I love Carol (mostly from comics but she was fine in the film and got so much hate, argh) and on a shallow note I am so happy to hear I'm not the only one with a soft spot for Yon-Rogg and Yonvers! He is so unpopular and I have no idea why, haha.

Omg you really have the best opinions, sharing my love for Whouffaldi and now this ♥

Yon-Rogg wasn't developed that much in the movie and some of his best scenes were cut, so I get why he's not on everyones top favorite list, but some of the interpretations of his character that I've seen are just so wildly inaccurate that I have to wonder if these people even watched the movie at all. Like, on one podcast everyone seemed to agree that he "represents misogyny in the film" and I just don't see it??, but then again I guess it's not my place to debate what is or isn't misogyny so I'll just quietly ship this in peace :')

Aww I wish you would have gotten that last icon in, I would have given an extension if you asked for one. Well, whatever you made will find its way into an icon post at some point hopefully - can't wait ♥

That flat coloring is your forte, I love everything in this post!

I really love the comic-y compositions in 1 and 6, 9 and 10 (omg!), 12, 15 and 18. The animation in 3 is very cool! 17 and 19 are awesome. I really like the text on 17, just such a good Thor thing, and the composition on 19 is amazing.

From the alts, I love 29 (the glasses are hilarious!), and the complex text work (with wonderful song lyrics) in 23. The unnatural coloring in 21 is great! I really like the three "plain" ones in the second row, too: full of emotion and mood, no frills necessary.

Great set all around! I'm glad you had fun with the theme, and you managed the full 20 even with a late start! Kudos!

I have some old tutorials (here's the tag), but unfortunately Photobucket has taken a lot of the images hostage, so some of them don't show :/ It's too much work to replace them but I hope the text parts are at least a little bit useful. I'd like to write new tutorials someday but I just never have the time.
