Here's my set for the first round of somein30 - a new challenge comm that everyone should join :) The theme was a technical game, which you can read more about here.

I used extra hard mode, mostly because I happened to get a lot of ACs and I thought that would look bad unless I chose to make this super hard for myself anyway. I usually try to make my sets as cohesive as possible but this time it was a lot harder than usual since the themes were all over the place. So this isn't a cohesive set at all, I did try to do a lot of complex compositions (especially blocking) and gradient maps wherever possible but really here are all kinds of styles mixed in here. I went a bit crazy with some of these but hopefully you'll like some! Hover for fanfom, see the themes under the spoiler cut.

This set is so great, I don't know where to begin!

The way you work with multiple colors & images is absolutely amazing! So many great compositions in this set! Love the color combo and the unnatural coloring in 1. The coloring and composition in 4 is absolutely stunning, I love red icons :D Both Sawyer icons are great, love the vibrancy in 10 and the grungy look and text in 13. 11 is probably my favourite, great color combo and I love the poster-like look and it's Watson. The way you incorporated the color explosion in 12 is so cool. The whole row 16-20 is amazing, teach my how to do blocking master! From the others I really like 23 & 25.

The colors and compositions of the somein30 set are stunning! I love all the blocking. I think my favorite is the Sherlock icon. It looks kinda different with the bright yellow and green and I adore the skyline at the bottom. I also love the muted Supernatural icon. There is something really "old-school picspam" about it :D

Aww thanks so much! You know me, I love old school icons so that is a huge compliment. I've been going through a lot of old posts to gather potential icons to use in future challenge posts and it's so interesting to track the development of trends. I never realized this before but I swear there was a time when blocking was more common than removed backgrounds. And the blocking icons (well many of them anyway) were so amazing, I wish I was that good, but I'm flattered you see some of that in 9 :D

Stunning compositions and coloring! I love the duochrome colors in 1, the composition in 2 (also didn't know subjects from varying distances can be interpreted in this way!), love the frame work and text work in 3, 4 is stunning! I love how you incoporated the fake background and stock in 4, the blending and the monochrome is great in 5, I love the darkness of Buffy, the coloring and composition in 6 (it's stunning!), great frame work and blocking in 7 - 10, I love the composition, coloring and use of stock in 11, I find supernatural hard to make the screencap so vibrant, but it's stunning in 12, and the composition work in 13 - 20 is amazing! I also am in love with 22! (Amazing set!)

Thanks so much for the wonderful feedback, I'm happy you liked that many icons! :) Yeah SPN is hard to icon and wouldn't have been my first choice for a theme like "color explosion" but I randomized my subjects too, just to make this extra hard, and got stuck with SPN but hey, I like a challenge :D

Wonderful set as always. I really enjoy your various coloring and compositions that define your trademark style of icon making . I particular love the intricate blocking techniques used successfully in some of these icons like 2 , 9, 15, 20 and of course in icon 25.
The coloring and texture use of icon 5, 16, 25 are just amazing . Also , icon 14 has such vibrant coloring juxtaposed with text and subject placemnet done carefully - very well done . <33
I always love looking at your icons for how they inspire me to try more techniques and practice more and just... make more icons. Get my creative juice flowing.

I know I repeat myself over and over but I continue to be in awe of your mastery of light and color. Your complex, imaginative compositions are just art, the end. How do you do it every single time??? ♥♥♥ (edit: and you did it in all twenty of them!!!!)
The way you use so many images and manage to make them distinguishable and original and just ?????? This set is a lot of blocking and I love it. so much. The way you use texture and light to complement it is impressive. But also, the "simpler" (but not really) icons also look gorgeous.
God, I love this so much. I know nominating your best. icons in December is going to be difficult but I can see myself picking so many this whole set, lol.

It´s soooo hard to pick favorite but let´s try.. The frst one has stunning colors and I love how you use stock :) Second one has stunning blocking; spectacular! 5 is perfect!! You're absolutely crazy to do the super hard mode! <3 I almost despaired over the hard mode already (but not enough to give up, I love a good challenge!). You have *so much blocking* in this set, it looks like more than 20 icons. :D I especially like 2 and 8 and 14, and 12 (the pattern over their suits is so cool!), and 11 (I love the layering of the texture, and the yellow), and 15 (the coloring, and the blocking, again!), but every time I look at the set to choose a fave, another one catches my eye. They're all so good omg.

I love the 'shrug' alt (22), it's hilarious! And Rumplestilskin is really scary in red, uuh.

I think you're the only one to like 8 so far, it's a bit of a mess but that was by faaarr the most difficult combo I got (I mean wtf how does one combine "pastel" with "dramatic lighting" and then have a silhouette on top of that???), so I was just super poud of entering extra hard mode despite this one awful combo :D luckily the rest were much easier (although I did get a ton of text/tiny text texture use which makes this set look way old, but that's fine by me).
