Hi guys, it's been a while. I kinda had an icon burnout after making two sets in one month in March, and then in the summer I had so much other stuff to do, that only recently I started to feel like making some icons again. Unfortunately, taking a half a year break means that I'm suuuper rusty and can't make any of my usual complex icons. I didn't want to get too experiemental with my first post-break icons, so these are simple icons with focus on coloring, hope that's enough! I want to get back to composition-heavy icons, but first I want to make sure I've got the basics down again.

Anyway, here's an entry for monthlyinspo round 28, where the theme was LGBT characters, of which there aren't really enough in my fandoms tbh. However, the one notable exception is Carmilla, it is an amazing web show, and the only canon romance that I've really liked, so most of these are from Carmilla, but there are some misc fandoms mixed in. I've also included an icon dump of some random icons, some are for challenges (color_inspired, itsabattlefield, elitesimplicity) but most are just things that I made after rewatching episodes of some of my favorite shows. Sometimes I prefer iconing without any specific challenge in mind, just what the episode inspires me to do.

Carmilla icons!! Plus Bill, Vastra and Jenny, awesome picks as well! ♥ (I liked the theme so I started a set for this but urgh, I'm so rusty they're all ugly, lol.)

The colouring in #2 is wow! I really dig the colouring and composition in #3, the crop in #5, the colours in #1, the text in #18 which works super well with the colours, the awesome lighting in #28, and the LOST ones, plus the Emma ones and #41, #44, #50 and #50 are also standouts. Loving the soft glowy lighting and rich colours vibe of this post :)

Omg I didn't know you had also seen Carmilla. You have a great taste in fandoms :) Bill, Vastra and Jenny were locks. I considered Clara, for the Jane Austen comments, but thought maybe she was left too ambiguous to count as canon. Aw I'm sure your set would have been great (or will be? There's still a bit of time!), but I hear you on the rustiness.

Sad to hear that, but I get it. Work takes a lot of my time too, and there's a million things I'd like to do in the little free time I have, so I can't fault anyone for choosing to do something different. Just know that your icons are missed!

I was away for a while too but my comeback wasn't as great as yours, lbr. Your coloring ♥♥♥♥ I just love how you treat color, whether it's vibrant, muted or pastel, and bright and perfect it is. All those that have complimentary colors palettes (and those who don't but just go so well together?) = LOVE. I just can't possibly choose just a few (every time I look at them I notice a new fave ones) but the Lost ones! 20! 43! Zeke's! I could keep going. The lighting and coloring all around is great. (I'm probably repeating myself.)

The monthlyinspo set is also fantastic. Carmilla was such a fun web series (even if I haven't watched the movie oops) and I loved you used it so prominently :D All icons are fantastic. 2, 3, 5 and 10 are ♥♥♥

You and your icons were missed and I can't wait to see what you do once you get going again!!!

omg you and your comments ♥ Thank you so much for somehow finding so many things to mention, even though everything here is very very samey. You're the best, seriously. And I'm super happy to find out you've also made a comeback. It's hard, I feel like any time away just takes away all my skills and I have to relearn eeeeverything. Omg you've watched Carmilla too. The movie wasn't anything special tbh but it was fine for what it was. The web series though I really truly love, and find it fascinating how much character and relationship depth they were able to do with that format!

They're gorgeous and you're the best, the end, haha. I feel the same way -- about taking time away and then forgetting it all. I still feel so rusty and like I don't have the technique to put into PS what I have in my head, haha. The web series is so good! I had a time I watched a few of them (LBD started it all) but not many, but I'm glad I watched Carmilla. It was so original and did a lot with the format, like you said :)

I am not :( (And totally confusing hahaha!) I never got to catch up on the show and I'm so sad about that. I loved watching the show live while I was in the US but now that I'm not there and can't even watch it days later... it bums me out. I can barely keep up with my other shows as it is... and I watch many on Wednesday, it seems. EoE was indeed a mess, wasn't it? But 40 should be lots of fun... :) Let's see if I can at least watch that one next year, haha. *fingers crossed I change projects at work and end up at one without the terrible everything my current one has*

Oh, right, moving out of the states would definitely make it more difficult. This season has been pretty good (the theme is super wacky though.. I'm sure you've heard xD but I'll take that over EOE, which indeed was a mess. I didn't hate it as much as most of the fanbase, basically I can't hate a season with Wentworth on it, and I found the Manu half of the cast pretty great. However, it was just unfortunate that the tribes were so uneven in terms of challenge strength and also entertainment value. And not to even mention EOE itself, which just, nope. Also, I was amused watching Joe's exit cause I remembered our discussion about how he'd probably be exactly the same he's always been and sure enough, mustached Joe was 100% similar to non-mustached Joe and even went in the usual spot :p But yeah, 40 is where it's at, there definitely are some questionable format choices there but I'm hopeful the epic cast will carry it! I hope you'll get a better project by then, sorry to hear you're not enjoying the current one :/ I'm splitting my time 50/50 between two projects, and one of them is completely crazy with these looong Skype meetings and I'm like, ok, if this is what the client wants to pay for I guuueeess we need to do this but it feels like it eats so much time that I can't get anything else done in time and it's super annoying. But at least my other project is fine.

I've been into Asian BL a lot lately, so actually every single show I watched this year has LGBT characters in it, which was a welcome change. :D

I've never heard of Carmilla, but I might check it out - webseries should be easy to get ahold of, I hope.

Of the monthlyinspo set, I especially like 2, 6, and 8: the first two for the complicated contrasting coloring, and the last one just for how well the color fits with her dress and the soft lighting. Ah, beautiful!

Of the rest, I especially like 21, 30, 33, 39, and all the Stiles. I love how you're doing blond hair, I still haven't figured that out. (But of course there are no blondes in Asian shows, so I really haven't had the chance. ;D)

I'm super happy you appreciate the "complicated" coloring in icons like 2&6 - I feel like a lot of people think that it's easier to keep the original background of the image, but I actually think it takes less time to cut the characters out than it takes to color the background :D

Wonderful update and welcome back. Yes , it is indeed been a while. The kaleidoscope of colors and their rainbow vibrancy is some thing to marvel at . When I try to do icons this vibrant , they always end up pixelated. :|
In the monthlyinspo set. each icon is interesting , in it's crop and choice of colors. I particularly loved icons 2 and 6. <3
In the Misc. set , the choice of caps for each fandom is awesome. I just loved how interesting the crops are in icons 14, 31, 35, 39 and 50 are . The composition of icons 19, 20, 22, 26, 51 are superb . And the coloring of icons 8, 11, 21, 22, 36, 42 and 53 are.
I've saved a few icons for later use. Will credit of course. Excited to see what you bring to the table next. :D A belated happy halloween to you and your family.

I hadn't heard a lot about this season (except the fact it was quite liked by the fanbase) until this week's double-ep. Yeesh, what a mess that's been. I still hope to one day get back to it because it's really a fun show even when it's not the best it can be.
And aww, I hadn't heard much but I hate it when tribes are not balanced (and some of my faves end up there). And lol at Joe's exit. Good ole Joe.

40 should be super fun and (I know I say this a lot) I really want to try and watch it week to week! I hate EOE is back but apparently, they did learn from some of their mistakes and the cast will be good anyway, so here's hoping it rebounds :)

I ended up not asking for the change just yet, haha. I chickened out. In my company, you mostly have one project you're on until it ends/you want out. My biggest problem with my current one is the client, which can be very annoying and demanding (the app is about to go live in 6 provinces so going into prod has been stressful) and has that fame. I love my coworkers and I kinda liked learning React (even if I feel we could've/should've used more props and whatnot, haha... what we have works, lol). If the next project, whatever that is, ends up being boring or whatever, I'll probably ask for a change. But we have fun and you never know if the next project will be worse so... :P
Hope your dull project ends up being better than it is right now! It's good you have two so that you can disconnect from the more annoying times. Clients can be so... ugh. Give a general idea but let us develop what we think will work best! You're paying for us to develop. We might surprise you! (I know they're paying but still, they shouldn't dictate everything :P
