Here's my last minute entry for [livejournal.com profile] monthlyinspo, round 19! Trying to get back to iconing after a few months off, but boy it just takes so much time.

So the theme was seasons, and I wanted to do this a bit differently. This is not an x number of summer, x winter etc set. Instead I chose to focus on only two seasons, this set represents a progression from winter to spring the way it is here in Finland. Winter starts dark. Then the snow falls and it's all white/bright and very cold. Then the snow start slooowly melting and revealing all these other colours, but this process continues well into the spring. So that's what I was trying to do, but if I have to divide these cleanly into seasons, let's say the first half is winter, the bottom half is spring. In terms of technique, I was really feeling textures this month so these are texture clusterfucks and I have no regrets x)

OMG this is a gorgeous interpretation of the theme! I am a total texture freak, and I can honestly say I love every single f-ing one of these!

I think the faintly grungy ones are my faves - the whole first and second rows (except 2 which doesn't look all that textured, but it is awesome in its composition!). And wow those close crops are great.

I didn't know you watched Outlander. :D I love the silhouette effect in 11, and 13 is amazing as well! I think if I had to pick a single fave from the set, it's probably 11 - very complex and great textures and composition and coloring and everything.

I love how Rose just pops out of the textured background in 14. I just want to take this icon and use it as an example for myself. I kinda forgot how to do impressive textures and I see here that I really want to get back into it. This set is so gorgeous!

Wow, thanks so much for this lovely and detailed feedback! I'm so happy you liked the concept and execution. Also glad I'm not alone in being a texture freak! Tbh I don't use them that much normally. It takes so much time to find the right one, and usually the payoff is pretty low cause an icon can work perfectly without any textures. The texture stuff here took so much time that I basically chose not to do colorings this time... One day (on a holiday maybe) it would be great to try to make a set where I try to do everything right, but usually that's not an option so there needs to be some sort of compromise :p

11 is my personal fave too, I'm super glad you like it!! :> I got very lucky with 14, the textures just fit right, but I wouldn't go as far as to call it exemplary xD super flattered though, thanks!

Yeah I've watched a few eps of Outlander, I really like period stuff and I found the show very promising, but watching more shows is pretty low on my priorities list atm. Maybe one day, though! All the scenery in it was gorgeous and I liked the atmosphere.

Ah, right, but I love them anyway. :D I often tend to overlook how a texture can make an icon worse, too, by slightly changing the shades/angles, especially on faces. It takes some extra work, definitely.

Haha, me, too. I can't wait for Christmas vacation!

Haha, well maybe not exemplary for you - your thing is complex compositions I could never hope to match - but exemplary for what I can achieve.

I hated the books, but I got drawn into the first season by the extremely well done female-gaze wedding night episode. I never got back into it after season one, though. My tumblr dash is still full of it, but somehow it never made me start up again.

And then of course I am so deep into cdrama right now that I don't even want to watch anything else at all. I dropped all my shows, let's not even talk about starting new ones (that are not Chinese /o\).
