20 TW + BTVS icons for 20muses

This is my [livejournal.com profile] 20muses round 2 entry! More info about the icon themes under the spoiler cut. LOOOVED this challenge. I chose two very different episodes for my claim: Teen Wolf 3.18 Riddled (a very dramatic episode) and Buffy the Vampire Slayer 6.07 Once More with Feeling (very funny ep, though with serious undertones).
Due to the nature of the round and me torturing myself with the hard mode, it's not a surprise that the styles in this post are ALL OVER THE PLACE and this set is faaaar from looking cohesive, but well, hopefully that means there's something for everyone here? :)

Hope you'll enjoy these! I definitely enjoyed making them.

Here are my inspirations:


TEEN WOLF
1 - Box1 technical: stock + silhouette
2 - Box2 art: all_malocks (far crop + close crop) + queen_bartonia (unnatural coloring)
3 - Box4 color: dark blueish grey + dark red
4 - Box4 song: Former Vandel - I was So Sure (this was almost too easy, pretty sure this song IS about this episode! o.O) + 30 Seconds to Mars - Hurricane (lyrics). I hate this icon it looks like a crappy absolutelybatty ripoff, sorry .___. i'd remake it if I had the time!
5 - Box1 art: poisonfield (surrounded by text pieces) + starkwars (completely obscured subject). in case the concept isn't clear, the... thingy... is meant to symbolize the Void that has taken over Stiles. Part of the thing is actually the painting from Stiles' room which some people took as foreshadowing!
6 - Box3 technical: text + blocking
7 - Box3 song: Paramore - Brick by Boring brick (butterfly wings!) + PVRIS - My House (bw + color)
8 - Box4 technical: close crop + scenery
9 - Box4 texture: mrs_padfoot + lookslikerain (idk if you can tell i used this one, it's pretty subtle)
10 - Box2 art: longerthanwedo (coloring style, crop) + queen_bartonia again (big text)

BTVS
11 - Box4 song: Jona Selle - Applause (it's a song about performing -> took a cap from Buffy's final song) + The Weeknd - In the Night (visuals: neon, blurred vision effect)
12 - Box2 song: Anna Clendening - Who You Are (lyrics) + Sia - Alive (visuals: muted icon, full body crop)
13 - Box6 texture: 12feethigh (veeery subtly used for lighting) + loseanhour
14 - Box1 word: easy + old (->vintage look)
15 - Box5 texture: stewark + mrs_padfoot
16 - Box4 technical: profile + closecrop
17 - Box5 word: sunshine + nature
18 - Box6 song: Lana del Rey - Dark Paradise (darkness. lol i'm so imaginative with interpretations) + Sam Tsui - Let It Go/Let Her Go (the theme of letting someone go)
19 - Box6 word: futuristic + amusing (never let me use this theme combo ever again cause this is what happens i try to make a demon look like a scifi show alien because WHY NOT :D)
20 - Box6 texture: 12feethigh again for lighting + accio-glow

COHESION IS OVERRATED. WHO NEEDS IT?! :P

Where do I even start??? Hmmm, let's go with 3, and the gorgeous red and orange of her figure that just make the most gorgeous contrast and color splash against the matte teal backdrop. That is so beautiful and clean yet powerful! Then there's 8, which has a million things I love, including a phenomenal close crop, incredible contrast and lighting, perfect sharpening, subtle tiny text, and flawless texturing. WHAT A STUNNER! What is 12? Why is it so dark and grungy and moody? WHY? Just curious. Looove the use of the loseanhour texture in 13. The soft, gentle pinks are amazing, and the figures almost blending in with the petals is a lovely effect! 14 is a killer. The coloring is 100% YOU, and I love how clean it is and sharp the figures are. The text is absolutely perfect and so funny, too!

What are the colors in 15 doing to my eyes? Why has that not been made illegal? Hair should not be that exquisitely blonde and buttery and flowy. Pinks and purples and blues should not come together so seamlessly. THE BLENDING AND TEXT PLACEMENT IN 18. WHYYYYYYYYYYY??????????????? I LOVE THE GRUNGE ON THE LEFT, AND THE FONT COMBO AND HER TINY FIGURE CONTRASTING AGAINST HIS MORE DOMINANT ONE. STOOOOOOOOOOOOOP IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

lol IKR. what is cohesion? I don't think it has ever existed in anywhere near my icon sets :o

I really like where the color palette I used for 3 took me but I feel like I can't take a lot of credit for the coloring since it was all about those colors I was given :D
I'm terrible with close crops, I always struggle with adding that something extra to them, but I'm pretty happy with the two I did in this set. So happy you like 8!
Not a lot of people picked 12 or 18 as faves and I'm not sure I like them that much myself, so it's good to hear you like both! ♥

Dude, I have a really tough time when I have to work with a color palette so take credit that you pulled the feat off so well! I don't actually like 8. I LOVE IT AND THINK IT'S FUCKING GLORIOUS. Legit shocked about 18 cuz I absolutely thought that one would be a highlight for pretty much everyone! It's handled so perfectly, IMO, and is very understated yet dramatic. Definitely a standout for me cuz I suck at blending and text, so to see those combined flawlessly in one icon is just awesome and yet envy-inducing! I basically disapprove of everything you make. YOU KNOW THIS. IT'S BEEN A FACT FOR YEARS.
