I can't believe the last 20in20 I completed was in June. Since then it has been all icon dumps. But this time, I have actually new stuff to post thanks to

technique20in20!

I seem to have moved from the 'icon all the Sayid' phase to 'icon all the Ben'. (OH AND ABOUT ALL THE BOCKE - DON'T LOOK AT ME LIKE THAT, I'VE SHIPPED WORSE :P)

The category set was about using styles you've been known for. I'm a horrible judge of what my icons might be assiociated with, so I just went with what I guess could be some of my signature things? In this case - vibrant monochromes, bw+color, pseudo vintage, complexity, geometry, vibrant grunge, something along those lines. I kinda failed the challenge too considering it was about our ~past styles and I still abuse the hell out of all these things but you'll have to excuse me cause I didn't really have a style before these elements :S

Anyway, hope you'll like something in this set, I must say I had so much fun with these - it's like all of a sudden iconing stopped being stressful and started being fun again, so yeah whether anyone enjoys these or not I'm just thrilled I got them done and can't wait to use this newly found enthusiasm to icon some more in the near future!! :>

Omg really? I almost posted that one cause I kinda like it too tbh! As always you blow me away with your amazing, flawless compositions. They are always so creative but never completely over the top. I especially adore all teh ac icons. And now you mention it i kinda dig Bocke.

Thank you so much for the wonderful comment!! ♥ I'm so flattered that you like the compositions cause I put ridiculously much work into them as always :'D And also glad you like the ac set, I knew I needed to include some compositionally minimal icons to balance all the themes and category icons, so in those I focused on coloring instead, so awesome to hear it works for you! And yesss Bocke ftw :3

Oh I def. enjoy these. White Decoration and 32 are my favourites. Especially 32 - I just love what the leaves in the background bring to the icon.

Aw, thanks! :3 So glad you noticed and like 32, I almost included it as my 'sky is above us' icon but then thought it wouldn't fit the overall look of the set.

Thank you so much for the lovely words, I'm so glad you like the set!! :3 and nooo don't apologize, it was really flattering that people wanted so many tutorials, I just forgot that my icons have like 300 layers each so full tutorials take a lot of effort to write :p so my bad completely!

The last two PSDs can be found in this psd set that I've made some time ago (I hope the link still works, if it doesn't let me know), it has one extra icon too. I'll add the rest asap!

//The rest of the psds are here; I have to warn that some of them are very confusing, especially the first one in those examples cause I screwed up a lot when making it and then desperately tried to fix things xD also, some of these contain lots of invisible layers that I may or may not have used for something, they were in the psds so I left some of them there just in case. So yeah these are all weird, but I hope some of them will be helpful to you anyway :D

I'm not so into DW, but your simple as it can get icon is perfect! I love the composition and colouring. I really love cat #1, and mood colouring, too. :)

Aw, thank you so much! tbh I was a bit scared of the 'as simple as it can get' prompt cause I rarely make minimal icons, but in the end I really enjoyed making it so I'm glad to hear the result works for you!! :>

That last alternate (#35) though, wow. That is a seriously stunning icon. I am flabbergasted over here because, honestly, that is some hard hitting pretty right there. I love, first of all, the creative use of silhouette you've chosen in this one. And it is so smooth and well extracted too! So that's gorgeous. And the image you used inside the silhouette is really wonderful as well. So, in terms of giving your icon a very meaningful punch, you've definitely knocked it out! And then there's the coloring which is neon perfection. I love how the bright pinks play off of the browns and the greens so incredibly well! Such a brilliant color combination, honestly. So that aspect is also perfect. And then to top it all off, there's this beautiful yellow light to tie it all together? Be still my beating heart, I think I'm in love. I'll let you know when I manage to pick my jaw up off the floor, okay?

WHICH ISN'T TO SAY THAT THERE AREN'T SEVERAL OTHER BRILLIANT ICONS WITHIN THIS POST BECAUSE THERE ARE INDEED! In particular, I love 'as simple as it can get', 'your heart's desire', 'mood coloring', and also the fourth artist's choice icon. 'As simple as it can get' is just stunning. It is so wonderful that you can balance ridiculously clean and minimal compositions with ridiculously complicated and complex compositions. You rule both ends of the spectrum. Anyway, this one is just so lovely in its lack of neon colors and textures and everything. There's something about the really pulled back browns and blues that make it pop regardless of how little there is going on within it. Totally stunning! And then 'your heart's desire'--running to the other end of the spectrum here, haha; we could get really fit running back and forth, I think--is just such a cute, creative way of utilizing blocking, I think. And it is still somehow rather minimal? I don't know how you do that, but I like it!! 'Mood coloring' should be renamed to 'mood lighting' because it hits all the right points for incredible lighting for me, to be honest. Just incredible balance between light and shadow there, and I love how it looks ethereal and also gritty at the same time. AC #4 is just a coloring win. I mean there's a lot of fabulous coloring in this post (neon lights and ac #3, to name a couple), but I think AC #4 just takes the cake? Something about the detailed nature of it just makes it extra amazing to me, I think.

And, um, I think you did really well picking out things for your style in the category section! I think those are all things people would definitely identify with you!

So wonderful job overall, and it was super awesome seeing an icon post from you! ♥

Wow, I never know what to reply to your comments cause there's no way I deserve all this ;__; ♥ just thank you so much, this is seriously wonderful to read especially now that I've been so disconnected from the whole iconing hobby for such a long time (on my scale anyway). I really need to take a round at some of my favorite communities to give some appreciation to some of the gorgeous posts I've missed. So, I hope you don't find random late comments too awkward :D

But OMG. Now that you and naginis both have been so wonderful about 35, I kinda wish I had had the guts to use it in the actual set. I'm seriously thrilled that it's so well received, I never would have seen that coming, I mean it's so pink and weird and the moodiness of the cap totally clashes with the coloring and I thought the yellow light could easily look just random so it's particularly fantastic to hear you say it actually ties things together! :O
also grinning like crazy about your comments on the lighting in 'Mood coloring', cause you're definitely my #1 lighting idol and the whole lighting business is such a mystery to me so whoa, it's seriously fantastic that you think I somehow managed to pull it off there!

Wow, these are stunning! I absolutely adore your coloring! It is fabulous and so colorfull! :D I don't even know how to pic a favourite but I try :D I love surrounded by darkness and white decoration. There's also great texture bg in sky is above us! I love a lot your cat set, esp. numbers 2 and 3. In three there is awesome texture! AC is fantastic, I adore the coloring a lot. It is so bright!

It's amazing how you can be away from LJ for months at a time and then come back and see someone's icon and go 'that was made by

john_scorpy. Becuase, I have to say that that is exactly what's been happening to me over the past while.

The way you use textures is so, so distinctive and I am head over heels for 'white decoration' and 'neon lights'. They're both totally gorgeous. I really like the effects over the TARDIS in #1 of the alternates and the lighting in alt #2 and 'Mood Coloring' is truly, truly lovely :)

These are all asdfghjkl wonderful and I'll just be saving all of the Lost ones because WOW Holy Everything! I'm completely in love with #24 and #26, they're simple but utterly flawless! I love that you mixed vibrant and muted in this batch. "White decoration" is my absolute favourite though, it's stunning. AND YES ALL THE BEN ICONS BEN ICONS ARE GOOD :D

OMG, these are gorgeous!!

I love the coloring and texture you used on surrounded by darkness, the coloring and 'simplicity' on as simple as it gets, the text on overwhelming text is amazing, the decoration you chose for white decoration is absolutely perfect for Lost and it goes so well with the icon, love the composition and black/white against the coloring in the background on your heart's desire, and the light and coloring on AC1 and AC2 is gorgeous. Oh, and I also love your muted coloring on 31 and 32. Snagging a lot of these. =)

These are fantastic! I absolutely adore how you worked your colours for #4, that's the kind of pale I love but never able to achieve! #5 is AMAZING for the text work which (I think) must've been massive.
#7 is a joy to look at, those greens and cyans literally sings (this monitor pushes out cyans in a way I want to cry of joy). And Obviously I LOVE #9 with all my heart, the purple-ish details over the right eyesocket and nose give the icon a very nice depth.
The Category is totally totally you and it's very well put together, it feels like an "escalation", which ends with one of my favourite icons from this batch!
AC#2 is also one I saved in my inspiration folder because it's both light and high-contrast.

I like the alts/rejects too, especially #31 and #32

Great work, as usual! I love the effect that blur colors into one another (if I'm making any sense here, because I don't know the technical terms for that... *sigh*).

The ones I find most interesting are the icons portraying Michael Emerson (I guess they are from Lost, aren't they? I'm not familiar with that show). I keep seeing "Finch" and yet he looks so different from the person in P.o.I.
