First actual icon post of 2013, containing a Rose Tyler set for [livejournal.com profile] character20n20 and the remake icons I made for the remake activity at [livejournal.com profile] bestof_icons.

I'm mostly really happy with the remakes and think the majority of them are better than the originals, so yay I may have actually improved during 2012! \o/

This Rose set I'm not that happy with though :| I like most of the ones I made first, but then I ran out of time again despite not signing up for anything else this month (but then again I spent a lot of time with the nominating at bestof_icons and making that damn progress post and I may have gotten a bit sidetracked by the7days too, so not that surprising after all) soooo I kinda dislike a lot of these as well. But then again I've noticed that I'm a horrible judge of my own icons, so who knows :p

Also, this is yet another set where I can't choose between simple and complex and muted and vibrant so yeah who else is surprised.
I had two reasons to pick Rose: 1) she's FULL OF WIN and more importantly 2) she's a cutie and the perfect subject to color, srsly, more tv characters should wear candy colors like she does :D and yes I totally used a Farscape quote on one of them, lol.

Nope. Not a single icon I like in this whole post. Because, clearly, it is opposite day!

Haha! This post is actually super pretty! I have so many favorites!! Let me tell you about them! =D

Your re-make icons are really, really well done. Seriously. I think the only one where I like the original better is the Buffy icon, and that's only because the concept in the original is just too cool to top. Everything else though? Holy hell, have you progressed! All the compositions, all the colors, all the textures, everything is so amazing now! 06 is killing me. I like the feathery textured feel you've given it. It's really interesting. 12 is fantastic as well; I love love love when you do fun, geometric texture blocking!! i wish i knew all the secrets behind it. The coloring also really works. 17 is also brilliant! Pretty simple, but the math stock in the background and the flawless green really make it stand out form the crowd.

And I don't think you have anything to worry about with your Rose set either! The vast majority are perfection! Close crop/text and imperfect are both spectacular! I love the text work in both especially in imperfect. And the coloring is expertly done in both as well. Hot is awesome too. And then there's neon which is crazy good, and I'll probably be snagging that psd along with everyone else to see how it was done. The smoothness of the skin and the crop are points which I particularly like. And then AC1 which is just...my favorite thing. The whole composition is just fascinating. I love that you make these things that I just want to stare at for awhile to get all the impact from. It's fabulous!

Omg, just wow, I have no words for awesome you and your comments are!! ;__; ♥ I honestly don't feel at allll deserving of the support of someone so vastly above my skill level, so please excuse my incoherent rambles.

So glad you like the remakes especially, and think they're mostly improvements from the originals!! I agree about the Buffy one though, the original was only like two weeks older than the remake and I had no idea what I could do with it without making the exact same icon again, lol. Omg and I'm extra glad you approve of the geometric texture clusterfucking I like to do - there's honestly not much secret behind 12, it was just a basic stripey texture background at first and then I just made a rotated copy of it and cut a circle into it and then threw some more stripey textures on it for good measure (I checked the psd to see if it was in any half bearable form to share, but it was a hideous mess with like two hundred layers and an insane amount of dead ends so I gave up on trying to tidy it D:).

Whoa, I'm particularly happy that you like the text on Imperfect, text is something I always struggle with and in that one I thought I had totally failed to make it readable. And omg the smoothness of her skin in Neon is totally because of evil topaz, the earlier DW seasons are kinda like 'topazy or super LQ/blotchy - CHOOSE THE LESSER EVIL' which is frustrating to say the least, so I'm extra glad you like that aspect of it!! :D
