37 Farscape icons (Prayer)

My entry for the 20th (YAY!!!) round of farscape_20in20, and also my fifteenth time participating :O god I've been doing this way too long, sometimes I feel like I have no life, lol.





So I made a little pact with a few of my friends in that comm. The deal was that me and jacquelee, who usually like to use textures, wouldn't use any this time, and that nebari_rebel who normally doesn't use them would make all the icons textured. But since one of the themes was 'Coloring' (no resource use), it meant she could only have 19 textured icons, so she said I could in turn have one with textures. That one is 'Amused'. The rest have no textures whatsoever and I'm freaked out cause this is way out of my depth so I have no idea if they're any good. Also I hope it's not the most boring set ever cause they're practically the same icon over and over :O looks like I just suddenly got CRAZY into close crops. I guess there's just not that much for me to do if you take textures away. It was an interesting experiment still and I'm proud that I could manage without textures and have the icons still look at least a little like me! ^^ The alts are textureless too, except for 9.

My claim was the episode 4x18, Prayer, cause I looooove the John/Scorpy interactions and the torture. ;) Some of the themes need some explaining, so bear with me:

'Favorite' is obviously favorite character :)
'Whoops' is from a scene where John actually says that. Scorpy really screwed up by killing Rygel for nothing.
'Vehicle', I was going to use the module, but it just wouldn't work. So instead I interpreted Moya as one (even though we all know she's so much more) and had an icon where the corridors can be seen.
My 'Amused' is 100% fake amused. Sorry, I don't think anybody in this dark angsty episode cracks a real smile :(
Also omg I could avoid the fingersuckage even though some of the themes kinda screamed it. Instead I used a shot right before it happens for 'Sexy', with John shamefully turning his head away but secretly hot and bothered by what Scorp proposes :) I did have the real deal in the alts, but I actually liked this one better.

There'll be a ton of new icons (mostly DW) posted very soon but I didn't want to sort through them just yet cause busy :( so I hope you won't mind the spam, lol.

I really would not know which ones to pick... :-)

So, since I *LOVE* all the hues having to do with fire, I'll concentrate on them: "Vehicle" is amazing and gives you the perfect sensation of warm safety that I always associate with Moya - no matter the situation the crew finds themselves in.
"Colouring" and "Skin", like "Vehicle" have that soft feeling that makes my eyes return to them every time.

In the "Extras" I like very much 6, 10, 12 and 13 - because Aeryn is my favorite character. Of course! :-)

Hee, I love warm tones too, but I'm often kind of scared to use them because red is the color that most easily turns into eye-sore levels of oversaturation. So I usually play it safe and choose cooler colors. But now I'm encouraged to go for warm more often, if you think they worked that well :)

I know I should have used more Aeryn cause it's such an aeryn-centric ep and there were tons of gorgeous shots of her, but somehow the closeups of the mixed moyans drew me in time after time, and of course couldn't ignore Scorpy either, so... well, at least she made it into some of the alts :D

Love the crops! I lean toward the cooler icons, myself.. but I like cool colors! Nicely done, regardless!

These are stunning. It's kinda hard to really get into a deep comment for all these because they're so lovely...

But I love the coloring and the glow of angst..

The coloring for recycle is really good. Love the high contrast.

Really love the aeryn extra icons.. especially the coloring in 8.

I just really like them all. It's nice to see you step out of your box. :) <3

It was great to step out of the box and get all these close crops and litghting tricks out of my system, but my next set will be something totally different. I'm already trying to think of a new, even trickier challenge for the next round... The problem is I've been doing this for so long that there isn't all that much that I haven't tried yet :P might have something to do with text though, my last few sets have only had a few text icons each and it used to be something I was good at, now I just feel rusty. Must fix that!

Wow, congratulations! These are great - and I'm surprised at how many look like they have a texture to me, or what I associate with a texture - the solid backgrounds and the glowiness especially. It makes me feel more confident in my set, since I was worried they weren't looked textured enough even though I'm doing my damnedest LOL

I really love the composition of Plus One, and the colouring on Colouring - so rich! All the skin in your icons always looks so brilliant and pure. I'm LOVING the close crops...the starkness of Favorite, the rich, wet, almost bloody colors of Angst. Whoops is one of my favorites (and one where it really looks textured to me!) and I definitely see the heat there in Sexy ;)

Shape is fab...I don't see many Scarran icons, and I like the abstractness of it. Fashion is a hoot, as is Large Text. Amused is terrific, crop and coloring, and Foreign Language is such a great choice...Skin and Simple are beautiful, almost ethereal, and I love the symmetry of Extreme Close Up and Emotion.

Of the Alts, I absolutely adore 10, 11, 12, and 17. I don't think I've seen the last shot in an icon before...love the originality.

Super icons, especially for being a set done outside of your comfort zone!

I love that I actually learned to do all of these things without textures. Usually I'm just lazy and use textures, or do it out of habit, but there is really no need, cause with solid color fills and gradients and hand painting you can pretty much do all the same tricks. It was great! Now, if I had to do a set without masking for example, that would despair me a lot more :p

And yay, thanks for liking the close crops, especially since you prompted me to do more of them at a time (I think it was at the LIMS) and I was like 'noooo, I can't do close crops', and also because I kinda cursed myself for having picked a late ep that doesn't have any bluray caps out yet and everyone knows that close crop + only MQ cap = not a good combination. I'm glad if it doesn't show that much.

Anyway this was a great challenge, thanks for taking part, it was lovely to have to try new techniques! That being said my next set will probably be the opposite of this one cause I definitely think this started getting a bit repetitive towards the end :p

Plus one (Love the colors and the blocking is gorgeous)
Whoops (The light is very beautiful and the crop is great)
Sexy (The contrast is excellent)
Amused (I really like the colors and the crop)
Large text (I love everythig; text/font, the crop and the colors are brilliant! Stunning icons :))
Extreme Close Up (The colors and the contrast are perfect!)
Skin (The crop is lovely and the light is stunning)

And the extras my favorite are 1, 5, 8, 11, 13 and 17.

This was really amazing and perfect set! Love you work :) Can't wait new post! :D
