Here's my set for [livejournal.com profile] monthlyinspo round 29, which was a Christmas-themed mystery bag. I really didn't feel like making any Christmas cliché icons here, it's just not my cup of tea at all, so instead of using the obvious inpirations, I wanted to really take a look at what I had in my bag and how I could make these items work in a different way. I think I came up with some creative interpretations, maybe some of them seem like a stretch but hey, I tried :D

As usual, I wanted to focus on a specific style or technique. So in this set I went back to texture-heavy, composition-heavy icons with a special focus on shapes and geometry. I also wanted to use a lot of b&w and monochrome. I wish I could have kept the color scheme more cohesive, but the palettes and textures added some more color into this. Another element I wanted to experiment with is tiny text, because it's not really used much anymore and most of my own text use is very big blocky bold texts, but I remembered liking this smaller text style at some point many years ago and wanted to see if it can still be useful - I think as a result some of these look really old school but I don't mind, those were great times :D Anyway, clearly I had too many ideas already and then the bag added some more, so this set is a bit all over the place. I hope you can still roughly see what my vision was here, or if not, at least enjoy some of the icons individually :) Let me know what you think, and have a happy new year! ♥

Used mystery bag items:
1. hot chocolate (I was inspired by the color scheme as well as the shape of a hot chocolate cup when looked from above)
2. palette Peppermint Mocha
3. texture by breathless @ da
4. texture by adriftingsea
5. texture by icon_dreams @ da
6. gumdrop (I used the typical shape of a gumdrop for composition)
7. mistletoe (for this I just used a random plant texture that also has some round shapes that reminded me of mistletoe berries)
8. palette Dear Santa
9. palette First Snowfall
10. ribbon (for this I had no idea what to make, so I googled "ribbon" and saw a ton of red horizontally drawn ribbons... so I figured, hey, let's just throw in a red horizontal stripe/bar and base the composition around it)

*bows down* As stunning as I thought they would be!

We had the same bag and I just love how you used the different items and just added in your flawless composition and lighting skills. Like the Spencer icon???? Amazing. Or the DW ones. Or the OB ones. I love how oddly dark/noir-ish the Parks ones are (not in a bad way!) considering that show is sunshine ♥ All those icons are just wonderful and I love you defied the Christmasy theme but still gave us icons that do remind me of the winter season, haha :D

You're right that tiny text isn't as used anymore and it's a shame. I definitely would like to try to incorporate it sometime. Also, you're reminding me I should get back to Orphan Black and finish it -- I loved it but I lost track of it after season 2? 3? for uni reasons. All your icons here are just incredible and super original.
From the other misc, I love the DW icons because they're just so varied and different and lovely <3 I love the coloring in The Hour icon and again, all the OB! The pastel-like, softer colors you used in them is are also so, so lovely.
I'm snagging a bunch because there is so much pretty in here.

Fabulous job as usual ♥____♥
