So it took me a while to answer this comment because I thought unnecessarily long about a good answer which is…yes and no.

I haven’t watched any DC movies apart from the Nolan trilogy, but while it does kind of apply, it’s how the stories are presented on screen. I saw a good tumblr post which compared Iron Man 3 and Man of Steel and the conclusion was basically that in Man of Steel everything ends badly while in Iron Man 3 there is always hope. So it’s not even dark vs. light, but rather positive (tone) vs. negative (tone). The DC shows don’t do that, at least Arrow/The Flash/(Legends of Tomorrow) and Supergirl are very different. Gotham is darker, but at the same time rather campy. Then again, they don’t share a universe with the movies unlike Marvel. I would actually say that Ant-Man is the only other movie that comes close to Guardians of the Galaxy, but all movies have some jokes and funny scenes thrown in. Daredevil was already a lot darker than the movies (or Agents of SHIELD and Agent Carter), but still had this overall positive and hopeful vibe. Personally I really miss that on Jessica Jones! It’s not a bad show (some people think it’s better than Daredevil), but I’m not even sure I’d say I really enjoyed watching it and I don’t just watch silly superhero stuff. Maybe it’s that people often perceive dark = serious = better. That’s also what DC, at least for its movies, wants to achieve to get away from the comic book image while Marvel, at least partially, embraces it. Not that I could exactly comment on that since I can’t get into comics.
