AND YESSS THANKS FOR ASKING ABOUT THE RANDOMIZING. I love talking about this and yes I think you'll like this answer since a) there definitely IS a chance for more anime and b) YOU CAN ACTUALLY AFFECT THE LIKELIHOOD OF THAT :D
so what we did is, a while ago out of pure scientific curiosity I made this huuuge excel file where I've listed the fandoms of all the icons in icon posts that have been pimped at boxedcolors. So there's just a list of fandoms, and how many icons there have been of that fandom. I keep this file up to date. There are also columns that translate the icon amounts into indexes, so for example if the first fandom has 100 icons and the second fandom has 1 icon, the indexes 1-100 would mean fandom 1 and only the index 101 would mean fandom 2. Then I use a random number generator to pick a fandom index, so here we have a random fandom yay! I like this way of randomizing because the likelihood of a fandom being picked is proportional to its popularity, so yes it favors fandoms that people are most likely to want to see icons of, but there's always that completely random element too so smaller fandoms also have a chance.
But, it's still not a character so what to do?? it would be ideal to also pick a random character from that fandom but it would be tricky since how should we draw the line between which characters are relevant enough to get on the list which we randomize from? Sooo, instead of a random character we use the fan favorites - the one that is featured in the biggest amount of ao3 fics. because lbr those are probably the ones that most people also would like icons of. If the same fandom gets randomized twice, we just pick the next most popular character from it etc. But once a character is 'voted out' that same character can't reappear on this project, but other characters from that fandom can.
Soooo, since you're a boxedcolors member... go ahead and make a HUGE post of all your favorite fandoms, and you might just skew the likelihoods of them being randomized ;)
